As this decade comes to an end and we see 2020 approaching it’s time to start reflecting on the past year and set goals for the coming year – and even the coming decade. In previous years I’ve shared my own achievements from the past year and goals for the coming year in blog posts, but this year I thought I would do something a little different. I want to focus on one specific resolution that I think a lot of people may share, and which I believe I can share some advice on – travel!

As an expatriate and Third Culture Kid, I have had the opportunity to travel to many different places around the world from vibrant and buzzing cities to remote rural villages. I love writing about my travel experiences on this blog and sharing my advice with you guys, and on your side, my travel posts are usually met with great enthusiasm! This year I am going to take a more forward role in writing about not only travel advice but sustainable travel advice, something I started in the summer when I wrote about New York; hopefully, I will be doing this in collaboration with the Unsustainable Magazine, a magazine I have written for before.

Christmas is only a few days away, but I wanted to give you all an early gift. This year I’ve created 8 different festive wallpapers for your phone so that you can feel all Christmassy every time you pick it up. They are all created by me and are completely free to download! All I ask is that you send me a photo of you using these wallpapers or tag me on Instagram @little.miss.expat if you use these.

The run-up to Christmas has to be one of my favourite times of the year. Ever since I can remember, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed everything to do with this holiday from decorating our tree to picking out the most tacky Christmas jumper. To me Christmas is more than just receiving and buying gifts, it’s a time to reconnect with family and friends. I usually spend the whole month surrounded by my close family and friends and I LOVE it. Living in Dubai, I don’t get to see my extended family very often; each winter I head back to London and the best part of my trip is spending time with everyone and getting into the festive mood.

In this blog post, I’m going to share a way to upcycle your old clothes so that you can bring life back to your old items and you don’t have to live with a closet full of old, worn-to-death outfits. Not only is upcycling your outfits a fun activity, but it’s much more sustainable to re-work your old clothes, rather than constantly buying new outfits and throwing away the old ones.

When I first moved to Dubai almost six years ago now, it was such a scary change for me, something completely out of my comfort zone. However, looking back on it now this new life in Dubai seems so familiar and comfortable to me, I can’t imagine what it would have been like if I had never moved. The unfamiliar became familiar.

The changes and choices we decide to make each day determine things in our life years down the line that we don’t even know about yet. Each day we are forced to make thousands of small choices: what time to wake up, what to wear, what to eat, and each choice has a specific outcome that will affect something else in turn. We can’t control everything in our lives, but we can control the choices we make. We have to ensure that with each choice we make, we make it with purpose and passion so that the few things we can control are exactly what we want to be doing and we can make positive change. We can set a tone for everything that follows by making purposeful choices.

In a couple of weeks I’m heading back to school for the last time – wow that sounds weird to say. I’m going to be a high school senior this year, and after spending fourteen years in school, I think I have some worthwhile advice to share with you.

I’m a little bit of a nerd and I actually really like school, but that doesn’t stop me from disliking the back to school season. I hate seeing the summer come to an end and I don’t like saying goodbye to family who I don’t see during the school year. However, once the school year is in full swing, I end up loving it. So, in this post, I want to share some of my top tips on how to make the back to school season a little less sad, and a tad more enjoyable.

Also, before I get into the rest of this post I wanted to share a few announcements. Even if you are not a student heading back to school, this post will still be relevant for you! I share lots of organizational techniques here and I even created a free day planner which you can download at the end of this post. Also, starting from next week, I’m moving away from the boring ‘back to school’ content and taking a different approach to it in an exciting and highly relevant way, as the summer comes to an end and we all head back to school/work; so keep your eyes peeled for that! So, without further ado, here’s the back to school advice I’ve got for you!
