Is your New Year’s resolution to travel more?

Travel

December 28, 2019

As this decade comes to an end and we see 2020 approaching it’s time to start reflecting on the past year and set goals for the coming year – and even the coming decade. In previous years I’ve shared my own achievements from the past year and goals for the coming year in blog posts, but this year I thought I would do something a little different. I want to focus on one specific resolution that I think a lot of people may share, and which I believe I can share some advice on – travel!

As an expatriate and Third Culture Kid, I have had the opportunity to travel to many different places around the world from vibrant and buzzing cities to remote rural villages. I love writing about my travel experiences on this blog and sharing my advice with you guys, and on your side, my travel posts are usually met with great enthusiasm! This year I am going to take a more forward role in writing about not only travel advice but sustainable travel advice, something I started in the summer when I wrote about New York; hopefully, I will be doing this in collaboration with the Unsustainable Magazine, a magazine I have written for before.

To kickstart this year I would like to share a fun new resource with you all that I am excited to be a part of! I personally spend lots of time pouring over travel blogs before I decide to visit a place, which is why I like writing my own travel posts so much. A few weeks ago Triptipedia asked me if I wanted to be a part of their ‘collaborative encyclopedia of travel tips’ and I knew my answer was a big yes! With this resource, anyone who wants to can share a travel tip, even if you are not a blogger. I think that this is something really practical if your New Year’s resolution is to be more adventurous with travel or just to get out more often. Some of my own existing travel posts that you may have read on this blog will be a part of Triptipedia and I encourage you all to take a look at the site and even share your own advice – who knows, it may be the start of your blogging career 🙂

I am in no way sponsored by this company – I just think that it’s a great treasure trove of advice that can help a lot of people when planning for the new year! I asked co-founder Clem to share a little bit about this site, here’s what she said…

“While we were traveling, the idea of creating a travel blog came up. Rather than telling our story, we wanted to make something that would contain practical information, something that would help other travelers anywhere in the world. We quickly realized that doing that on our own would be close to impossible and that we needed the help of a community. And so was born Triptipedia, a collaborative encyclopedia of travel tips. Triptipedia has now more than 1200 articles made by 600 contributors: travelers, locals, tourism professionals and governmental tourism information centers, each giving their unique perspective and travel tips on different topics and localities.”

So as we plan for 2020, I hope that if you’re able to, you take some time in 2020 to travel and explore a little more, even if it may not be in a different country or city, there is still something new to discover; shared advice and experience from others will always help.

I thought that it might be nice to share a few of my favourite travel photos from 2019 in this post to inspire!
