My favorite festive moments over the years

December 24, 2022

Sorry I’ve been absent from the blog for most of the festive season! I hate how college finals season coincides with the festive season, and I gotta say finals really took it out of me this year. I feel as though I just got back home, caught up on sleep, and it’s already Christmas tomorrow! It kind of scares me how I haven’t even had time to feel festive this year! I remember in past years, I used to plan a whole schedule of festive blog posts and I would actually post more in November and December to prepare for the season so I feel a little bad about not really posting at all this month. But, I thought I could make up for it by doing this little festive blog post and reflecting on my favorite festive moments from the past few years.

In case you did want to check out some of my old festive posts, you can find my post about Christmas in Georgetown here, my guide to hosting a virtual Christmas gathering here, my ultimate Christmas preparation guide here, and a post about Christmas traditions from around the world here.

And with that, let’s move on to my favorite festive moments from the past few years!

My first festive season in Georgetown

Before I moved to DC it had been a really long time since I had spent the run up to Christmas in a cold place that fully embraces Christmas. I love seeing all the decorations in the beautiful townhouses and the trees lit up through the windows. One of my favorite things to do is to take a study break during finals season and to walk through the Georgetown neighbourhood and see the different decorations. Seeing all the cosy decorations and warm glowing trees through the windows makes me want to have a home like that in Georgetown one day.

Christmas lunch in Dubai

We always do a turkey and all the trimmings for lunch on Christmas day, and our one last year was probably one of our best.

Our first out-of-Covid Christmas

Our first Christmas where we were allowed out of lockdown was probably the best one we’ve done! I remember, that one was in my freshmen year of college when I was doing it online because of the pandemic. It was a great Christmas with friends out in the Dubai sun!

Designing my first Christmas collection!

If you didn’t already know, I have a digital design store on Etsy called Wildflower Studios! One of my favorite Christmas memories was creating my first Christmas collection where I created custom Christmas cards and singing Christmas cards (unfortunately I do not sell them anymore!) but it was such a fun time putting this collection together and creating a marketing plan for all of it.

Friends Christmas gathering

I remember this Christmas so vividly because we had a gingerbread house decorating competition and it got super competitive. I think it was the first time since the first year that we moved to Dubai that we decorated the house and fully got into the Christmas spirit here (previously, we would always wait until we went back to England to decorate the house and put up the tree)

Christmases over the years in London

Christmas in London is our family’s classic thing – even though we haven’t done it in years! All of my earliest and best Christmas memories are in London. I remember our nativity plays when we were in school and the school Christmas lunch and dress up days, it was such a special time. I remember all of the Christmas lights in central London and everything becoming festive in the weeks leading up. As much as I love DC and Dubai, Christmas in those places will never live up to London. When I have the option, I’ll definitely be back there for Christmas!

Christmas market in Vienna

European Christmas markets are the epitome of festivity, we went to Vienna in 2017 and it was such a great time.

And there you go, some of my favorite festive moments from the past few years told in photos! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas if you celebrate and eat lots of great food!

See you next week,
