I’ve been seeing this trend on tik tok where people share their semester takeaways and lessons, and I thought I’d do something similar in this blog post! Technically this is my Sophomore year, but it was my first in-person semester of college, so I feel as though it’s been a huge learning experience. Here are some of my lessons learned from semester 1!
- Long walks aren’t just for middle-aged mums, they’re very therapeutic
- One person in the friend group has to make the plan, otherwise it will never happen
- Hugs from friends help during tough times 🙂
- If you want peace and quiet, wake up early on the weekends
- Classes are tough, but you can do it!
- Don’t take a class on Fridays. The weekend starts on Thursday night.
- Set a timer for your laundry. People will get mad at you and empty your machine
- Take your vitamins! Everyone is always getting sick
- Prioritize what you love doing
- Washing and changing your sheets is a struggle, but it’s so worth it
- Invest in earplugs. Dorms are loud.
- Dressing well will make you feel like you have your life together
- Invest in a mattress topper
- Remember to wash your hydroflask
- Wearing blue light glasses will make you feel smarter
- NEVER try and do your laundry on a Sunday evening
- The Sunday Scaries are a real thing
- Get off campus if you can – escape from the bubble!
- Plan one thing everyday that you look forward to, even if it’s something small
- Scheduling helps you handle your stress. Schedule everything into your Google Calendar
- Invest in a vacuum
- Don’t sign up for a class that’s more than 2 hours – they’re horrible
- Don’t buy physical textbooks, look for PDFs
- Get that big North Face backpack, even though it makes you look like a nerd
- Everyone has an iPad. They make you feel smart.
- College kids will never be ontime to anything
- Printing at college is such a hassle
- Don’t eat the cafeteria chicken
- Take your chargers with you everywhere
- Cherish your time at college!
I hope you liked my takeaways from semester 1, they’re just some lighthearted fun! Is there anything you’d add to this list?
